After leaving
Mae Hong Son, we stopped at a bunch of local hill tribe villages. The villages were so inviting. Although some of these places were extremely remote and literally on the border near Burma, they had internet access. The same people that stirred huge puts of rice over a communal fire for the entire village’s dinner could also use the internet. I have about 10 email addresses from different villagers. It was crazy.
Chang Rai was supposed to be a chill version of
Chang Mai, which was supposed to be a chill version of Bangkok. I think those are pretty fair estimations. We planned on having a short visit in Chang Rai, but Fabien and I got sick from a moldy hotel room there. I was very sick for a day, but Fabien was sick for over a week. I eventually had to take him to the hospital. With Fabien sick and the country’s elections forcing most businesses to close down for three nights and two days, I used this time to do a few days of work. I managed to be pretty productive, and I’m grateful that the coffee shops in Chang Rai have wireless internet.
